Dear Friends and Neighbors,
The City Council will be deciding the fate of the Carlsbad Village Plaza at this meeting. Your presence is crucial. This is the most important meeting of the entire approval process. This project represents a crucial turning point for our community’s future, and we need your support more than ever. We need to let our elected officials as well as the developers know that we’re watching, we’re engaged and enough is enough.
Why Attend?
This new development has a greater detrimental impact than other similar projects because it destroys an entire shopping center with businesses that nearby residents depend on. Seniors and low income residents are the most impacted by the loss of these essential services.
Project Application Based on False Information
Recently, we enlisted the help of a highly experienced professional traffic engineer to to review the Planning Department’s report (staff report) for the project. This engineer has previously worked for the City of Carlsbad. As an independent, impartial expert, he clearly pointed out the deficiencies of the traffic analysis submitted by the developer. The Planning Commission’s recommendation to approve this project was based in part on this faulty and misleading report from the developer. This is just one example of how the game is rigged. We must let the Council members know that we want them to reverse this injustice by rejecting this project application.

We are forming a local nonprofit called the Equitable Land Use Alliance. With it we will not only fight against this project, but we’ll also work to reform the laws that created this monster in the first place.
Through education, community engagement, and legal action, we strive to defeat this project and take steps to prevent projects like it in the future.
